Ballarat District Nursing Society Incorporated was formed in 1911 to provide home nursing (and often food, wood and bed linen) to the poor. The first forms of transport for the nurses were bicycles and trams. The Society initially operated out of one room, then in 1968 occupied its own premises in Armstrong Street North. In 1993 the present building in Sturt Street was purchased.
The name Ballarat District Nursing and Healthcare Incorporated was adopted in 2001 to reflect the additional services provided to strengthen the existing core business of personal health care in the home.
